I am trying to create a navigational system rather like the one used in the msdn library but cross browser compatible. Everything works perfect until I dynamically alter the size of the contents

e.g. let’s say that I have an expanding tree menu or use the set text of layer behaviour of “dmx1Content1” thereby making the contents change size without the page reloading; when this happens the scroll length is fixed to the size of the original contents

Is there a way around this issue so that the scroll length is recalculated as the size of the contents changes without reloading the page??

Also given the premade example where the width is 300px; if some contents are inserted that is greater than the 300px width then the contents are cropped. I am refering to a test I made using the vertical scroller... is there a way to scroll automatically in both directions as the contents increase in size?

When using eg. 'Set text of layer' there is no trigger for Scroller Genie to adjust its content layer length.
Scroller Genie can adjust the content layer size, but it needs to be explicitly told that the content has changed, like the accompanying 'Load URL into Scroller' behavior does. Can't you use that one?

No, sorry. When defining the (vertical) scroller, you will have to make sure that its width setting is appropriate for its content. Normally the content will (re)flow and adjust itself to the available with, but images that are too big can't do that.

well the issue is that the tree menu only resizes for NN4 and it expands without the need to reload the page. Maybe I should just use an IFrame for the IE and NN6+ version and use yours for the NN4.xx version as it reloads the page anyway??

can the load url behaviour work without reloading the whole page?

Yes, but the behavior is not entirely cross-browser.

Eg. it works okay in IE, but there are issues in NS4: NS4 will replace the content of the scroller just fine, but it will not resize the scroller content layer to fit the new content length.

You would have to try out the result in the browsers you're targeting with your website to see if this Scroller Genie feature can be used in your website.
