Keeping a layer visible

I am constructing a typical fly out menu system where a layer containing a submenu is shown when the user mouses over a menu item. I have it set up for the submenu to hide on mouse out or delay of 4 seconds.

A client has complained that it's too easy to slip your mouse off of a layer and then the menu you were looking at disappears. But if you take off the mouse out on the hide and go with a long delay then the menu will continue to sit there unless they click on another menu item in that group.

Is there a way to just to do the hide after a delay, but at the same time keep it visible even after the delay time as long as the mouse is over it?

I tried putting a separate behavior on the image in the layer and the layer itself to show itself while on mouse over, but this doesn't work.

Any thoughts?

The layer should already remain visible while the mouse is still over it. It should only disappear when the mouse if moved off the layer.

Doesn't it happen that way for you? If not, can you show me a working page where the problem is showing?

If you don't have the "on mouse out" option checked on the hide tab then it will only stay visible for however many seconds you put.

Ideally I'd like for the "show Layer" to fire as long as the mouse is over, and if the mouse leaves and then comes back on it then it doesn't immediately disappear, but waits for whatever second delay you have set. This way it isn't so touchy and cuts off if the mouse accidentally slides off.

Can this be done? I tried putting a separate show layer event tied to the "on mouse over" on the layer itself, but it doesn't appear to work.

Sorry, currently Layer Genie doesn't work that way. But I will put it on the feature request list for possible future implementation.
