i found a better way to send big files over the internet:
www.sendspace.com

Select the file, upload and then give the link to the other person, or ... chose the option to send it to a email address.

It will allow you to send files up to 500 Mb,very quick and safe, and what i love most about it, it's FREE !

Have fun with it !

thanks for the info, but in my opinion you can't beat straight forward FTP.

u can send whatever u like, however big without the need for a website middleman, who if something goes wrong screws your file transfer up. plus the transfer will use your full bandwidth for speed, again something a webpage will not do.
and i seriously wouldn't be happy with someone emailing me a 500mb file

Great Site

Thanks for the link looks better than the rapidshare type sites , my domain only allows files sizes via email of 10 megs and although i uses some of the bigger free acounnts to recieves like files like gmail (1Gb) etc my broadband ISP deletes any files over 10 megs going through their mail server and so it can be difficult to send anything over 10 megs

As Dave said i wouldnt be happy recieving a 500Mb email but untill ISP,s and BT invest in bandwidth sites like this are very useful

Cheers

Paul

What about the potential legal ramifications if someone abuses your system? Have you covered your arse or can you???

Hi guys,

I found the greatest product: "Transfer It Online" --> www.transferitonline.com

It alows to send files up to 10GB. A friend is sending me 4,2GB for the moment.

For the moment it is free, as they are still in a testing faze, but it already works very good.

They have some cool features as well:

Bandwith control, so you can still keep on surfing while you send your files.

The program automatically resumes incoming and outgoing traffic after interruptions. This is very interesting for me on my laptop. I start sending a file at work, i go home, and when i reconnect my laptop to the internet it just resumes the in & out going traffic.

You can see whether your contact has received the message you sent.

Those guys have implemented the strongest security for sending stuff across the interner i have ever seen. On top of the ssl tunnels they use a public / private key infrastructure to secure the "transfers".

...

Best regards,

Geert

Try www.swapitencryptit.com It's the best and cheapest way to send large files fast. They offer a no membership based service. basically you pay for the file size you need to send and nothing more. You can use Swap it! Encrypt it! to send files fast between computers or mobile devices (you can even send files directly from your mobile device). They have a free service too called Swap it! Encrypt it! Lite.
