I've read a few comments about the new activation scheme Macromedia is implementing for its studio MX products. It seems that some people are vehemently against it, to the extent that they are vowing to not purchase the new products. This seems like a pretty controversial issue, and I was wondering if anyone had any comments about why this has people so riled up?

I have bought all versions of dreamweaver since v.3 over 4, ultradev and MX which all could be downloaded in a demo version where you had 30 days to test if it suited your needs and would accept the extras you might have purchased.

After 30 days you could buy the product online, get it up and running within minutes - with allmost no uncertainty if the product worked properly - and with no production interruption.

Now Macromedia introduces this new and unessecary activation procedure that forces you to accept that it can cancel anytime and for any reason - because its so unstable.

Macromedia list all the reasons why the demo period might expire prematurely - and they state that they cant do anything about it! They even ask you to deactivate any antivirus measures you have for the entire demo period (are they raving mad?) as your antivirus program may/will make your demo expire.

I for one, tried the demo for one full day - and was just about to try out all the extensions i have bought over time- a considerable investment - but before i could finish the extension install - the demo expired - leaving me with only a jumping icon.

How can i (and other developers that make our living of dreamweaver) depend on such a flaky program - when we dont even have a chance to try it out and make a proper testrun?!

Secondly i dont want a program that have to connect to macromedia to run, i buy the program and then it should run straight of the box. I dont allways work online - and want to be able to choose NOT to.

I dont want such a flaky an questionable procedure to be incorporated into my primary source of income - as it might / allready seems to introduce new bugs - and believe me, Dreamweaver has enough bugs allready (see elsewhere on this board).

Macromedia should stick with the old procedure and fix the bugs in allready delivered software before venturing this questionable path.

Yep I hate being treated like I'm the one guilty of software piracy when I'm not. The crackers will continue to crack. In the mean time, don't punish me with having to connect to your server or call you when my disk crashes. I'm your paying customer.
