Hi.So im designing a new web site in FWMX 2004.
Made 5 pages in the same document, with basic elements on a Main Layer, and the rest on each seperate layer ie. Default Layer, Contact Layer, Products Layer etc. etc. switching hide/visible between the layers.
Now i want to slice the different pages, Main Layer is ofcourse to be sliced and transfered to DWMX 2004 and going into a Template. But how do i keep those slices, just hidden, and then slice up the other Layers one ny one, keeping those Slices but still with the ability to hide them and export them seperatly??
Tried to draw a Slice and grab that Slice in the Layers Palette under Web Layer and drag it onto my Contacts Layers, but it just wont do that, it just goes back to Web Layer.
Is this a missing future in FW???

First, all <b>web slices can only be on the "Web Layer"</b> in the <i>Layers</i> panel. Hence why they wouldn't move to other layers below it.
As for designing multiple pages within one FW document, I will have to look into this as a production solution.

Sorry Bo, you're going to need to seperate each page as its own FW file. Not hard, infact here's a quicky way: <b>File > Save As...</b> and save one for each page/name, then just reopen each one and delete the layers that aren't for that page. If you have a common slice (logo, nav, etc.) then I suggest slicing the common stuff up before making (savin out) each page, then you'll have slices done in each page and just rename the web slices. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
FW is getting close to pulling something like that off, but we're not there yet. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thats what i was afraid of.
Life would be so much easier if it where possible to create seperate Slice Layers.
In a complex design where you need a lot of 1 X y pix. slices to ensure your layout wont collapse in different browsers, and otherwise have a lot of slices on the "Template" (For bg attributes) overlapping some other slices on sub pages. Saving and editing slices on different files is not the optimal solution.
I dont know if you can follow me in my thougths here, but do you se the enormes advantages in the ability to Show/Hide different Slice layers, and the option to Export only the Slices visible on screen.
Well i would say that this would be a major advantage for FW.
Maybe we should do a poll on this??

A poll wouldn't be needed because you and I aren't the only ones who would love this feature! I'm not sure what FW's special PNG formats limits are. Reguardless, let your voice be heard - tell Macromedia we want it and we want it now! www.macromedia.com/support/email/wishform/

Hehe, I wish! I also submitted the same wish to MM last night, so maybe a one-two punch will get a bell ringing over there. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>
As for the Firefox names issue, Management is well aware of it, and it's a forum (Snitz) issue, so we're all waiting for the new forum release/implimentation.

I just saw tonight that Adobe ImageReady has "Slice Sets" and "Layer Comps" that can be very useful to do exactly what you're trying to do. I was impressed and jealous... I want FW to have it NOW! *sniffle*

Hi.
Year i know Adobe is a little ahead in this Grafix run..........well maybe far ahead, but im used to FW, I payed for it and i kind of like it.
Changing is currently not an option.
Maybe ill by Adobe Photoshop later on, many designers work in it, and FW aint always 100% on opening .psd files

Each year they both add stuff, FW is damn great... the Slice Layers/Layer Comps is the ONLY feature that I'm jealous for... other than that IR is too slow/clunky for me. FW is all vector oriented in my eyes, and that's worth more than any Adobe name. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
