IPTC Data and PHP Upload, SIP

Hi All,I want to create my own digital asset management system but first need to figure how to extract the IPTC data from jpeg images into my MySQL db during the upload process, if anyone has any info on this it would be a great help.

Surely someones know how this is possible. Could PHP Upload and SIP be updated to include this function?
