The UDzone.com Site

New Ideas
December 15, 2000 by at UDzone.com

My ideas:

  • add smilies and boardcodes to the comments
  • Disable html and javascript posts
  • Tree view in comments (to create topics, like http://www.tweakers.net)
  • better fonts in 'rating'part of the page. Looks very bad over here
  • possibility to disable email being visible to other visitors
  • Disable HTML
  • In comments: first comment shown as first. This will enable you to read the conversation much better
  • Line breaks in comments
  • In admin: delete, approve or disable multiple elements at once
  • When editing comments the popup window still says 'post'
  • Disable warning that the page has got to be refreshed
  • Better indication of when a link goes to an other website
  • check for existance of new entered links to avoid dublications
Books Section

  • Add img upload filed for books review section
Things TODO

  • Poll, with the poll review detail page
  • User Details
  • Activate How-To Links

New items hightlightes:

  • All topics that contain new items or has received new comments since the last visit of the user, should contain a new icon on the right site of their title.
date format (dd-mm)
January 2, 2001 by ariscris

Hi,

The date format of (dd-mm) on the first page are a bit confusing for non-European visitors...  Is there anything we can do about it?

Thanks.

Aris

P.S. Being able to format your posts this way is really cool!

little x on upper right of panels on home page
January 3, 2001 by ariscris

Thanks for the quick response on my comment about the date format.  This time, I've noticed the little x on the upper-right of the panels on either side of the home page.  I thought they would allow me to customize the home page by hiding some of the panels that weren't useful for me.  Is this the plan?

If not, the little icons can be confusing to a user.

Thanks.

Aris

Yes Aris,

that's what we are planning to do in the future. But it's not likely that we will have it functional at the opening of the site. We first focus on that the site works and that everyone gets familiar with it to put his own content online.
After that we are going to make the site look better by adding lots of DHTML stuff to it when we have the time and think it's worth the effort.
I will remove the 'x' before we go live.
Thanks.

George, I like this online HTML Editor. I had seen somthing similar on yahoo and was wondering if it is publically available. Nice site!

Thanks,

Hi Will, the HTML Editor we use as a publically avaialable extension http://www.publicdomain.to/index.mv?rsn=12&rpn=26

The real magic actually resides in IE5+ - it contains a build in html editor that the extension just activates. We had to tweak it a bit for our needs on UDzone - but it works perfect!

Books on UD
April 22, 2002 by Bill Kurn

I know it's ironic for me to be writing an .asp if I cant even figure out how to post a new question to the forum. There is no "post new thread" link anywhere to be found.

I was wondering if anyone knew of publications/books that deal with recent UD issues such as using UD with Win XP and IIS. What is the best "manual" out right now? I can find numerous on Amazon, but I want the forum's opinion.

  Thanks!!!!!!!
