Well I’m afraid I’ve had it with HTML Editor 3.

I’m using Dreamweaver CS5, my PC is running Win 7 64 and I’m testing using the Win 7 version of IIS.

All the hosting companies I use have the latest version of Windows Server and host large scale public and private websites including local and state government sites.

1) No matter what permissions are set and with or without the ‘upload_authorize_for_dmxEditor’ file I get the same error message on every server I try it on:

"Upload Error
This folder is not authorised for upload!
Please make sure it has write permissions and the authorisation file is in it."

Pages uploading to the same folder using HTML Editor 2 work fine as do pages with just PureUpload. All the WebAssist extensions work too.

2) The editor is unusable in Explorer 7 and 9.

a) All the popups from the ‘menu bar’ are hidden behind the text area. They work fine in Explorer 8, Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
b) The text area vertical size is ignored and it expands to whatever height it feels like on the day.

3) The use of parent paths is NOT allowed by any of the ISPs my clients use. These are large commercial hosting companies and they flatly refuse to allow parent paths so I have to move all the linked files to the same folder.

I put it to the ISPs that “And as of the latest versions of IIS the parent paths are not a security issue. That is fixed in the IIS itself.” They laughed at me and said they couldn’t care less what DMX Zone Administrators believe, they will not allow parent paths and that if I couldn’t get my clients sites to run without them then I should just go elsewhere.

So there it is, can’t see the popups, can’t set the text area height, can’t upload files because of parent paths and permissions error messages. I haven’t tried to get the extension to do anything else, but I have little confidence it will work.

Oh, and the Editor menu-bar jumps to the right of the text area and ends up off screen in Dreamweaver just for fun.

This really means that the file called upload_authorize_for_dmxEditor is not located in your live upload folder. Please make sure it is there. What is the name of the folder?

This is IE7 only issue - that is why we don't support IE7.
The Adv HTML Editor 3 is IE8+ compatible as well all other browsers. It works fine in IE9. Maybe you have IE7 compatibility mode in IE9 enabled if you see it there as well.

The latest version of Adv HTML Editor 3 is compatible with parents paths disabled option in IIS. So it will work just fine with parents path disabled - you only need to set in DW the site options to make all your links site root relative.

Just go to your site definition options in DW, then Advanced Options, Local Info and select Links relative to: Site Root.

That will enable site root relative paths and will make the site work fine even if the parent paths are disabled.

George

Hi George,

Explorer 9 problems fixed - it was 'emulating' as you suggested.

However, I still can't get the image up load to work.

"Upload Error

The ‘upload_authorize_for_dmxEditor’ file is in place. I can see it, but I still get the error message. The direcory is named 'images'.

Hi Peter and George.

I use DW CS4. I have the latest AHE 3.1.0.

Regarding the "Upload Error This folder is not authorized for upload! Please make sure it has write permissions and the authorization file is in it"

I have the same problem with IE8. The error msg is taken from IE8. Chrome or Safari doesn't upload at all and the don't come with error msg.

I have specified the upload folder to be "AdvHTML_Upload"

What puzzles me most that the following files:

delete_authorize_for_dmxEditor = 0 kb
gallery_authorize_for_dmxEditor = 0 kb
upload_authorize_for_dmxEditor = 0 kb

The files have no extension, they have no file size.

I would greatly appreciate an answer too.

Hello Jens,

Yes these files are empty 0-byte files. They are created and used by the editor so, there is no problem, they have no extensions.
