Firstly, I know nothing about HTML codes or website design or anything else! An ignoramous. What I do know is that when I create pop-ups in Dreamweaver MX for my website, they work fine in IE but not in Netscape (they do not open in the browser window but go straight to the taskbar at the bottom). With AOW 2, I could correct the Netscape problem by checking "always on top", but then when switching over to Windows XP IE, it resulted in an error message when I clicked on the thumbnail. You can't win! If I purchase AOW 3.0, has this problem with XP been ironed out? Or is it just a problem with me? How can I please both XP IE and Netscape?!? Help!

AOW3 is fully tested with both IE and Netscape 4 and 6 - so it should always work.

You don't need to have always on top on for this in AOW3

It just works right out of the box! You can open your images directly and the popup window size will be made so it fits exactly!

George

My pleasure!!!

One teensy, weensy thing to take into account for a future version:
AOW3 doesn't seem to help with the earlier versions of Netscape, like Netscape 4.6. This is really splitting hairs, I know, but it seems that many of the Netscape users refused to upgrade their versions for various reasons. If there is any chance you can fix AOW4 to take them into account, I will buy it all over again!!!

Thanks once more for a great product <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>,

HI Laurel,

What exactly does not work in NS 4.6? I've tested it with NS 4.7 and it works all.

Will check it out again - maybe it's something I'm doing wrong. The one I tried, the pop-up still went straight to the bottom, as before. Will let you know when I've had time to play with it some more...

Hi George
No. I have tried a variety of things and the pop-ups still don't seem to work in Netscape 4 versions. It must be something to do with the way I set up the pages. Using Dreamweaver MX, I click on the thumbnail image, open AOW3 in behaviors, link to the pop-up, designate "on mouse down" in behaviors, delete the 'javascript' in Link in the Properties box, and type # in Link. My website is www.laurel-clark-designs.com. Any advice greatfully received! You're probably thinking,'why doesn't she hire a professional?', but I am determined to do the website myself! <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi Laurel,

It works in the latest version of netscape. Could you change the event from mouse down to onClick?
Just a suggestion.

Hmmm... Was hoping that might work, but afraid not. Still doesn't work in Netscape 4.8.

But I am happy enough to have it work in 7! If you think of anything else to try, please let me know, though.

Just for fun I installed netscape 4.8 on my computer and it is amazing what it does to your sites. Terrible. But the regular popup windows seem to work. At least I looked at the demos of Advanced Open Window on this site.
Only the flash movies didn't popup.

Well HOORAH! Thank you Martha and George for your combined help. It was me, in a way, after all. I was linking to htm pop-up pages that I had created in Dreamweaver for each pop-up. Something in the code was overwriting AOW3.

Now I am using your extension as it should be used, and linking directly to the images in my Images root folder. This saves tons(!) of time, as I no longer have to make new pages for each pop-up.

However, even with the direct links to the images, if I used "on mouse-down", only some of the pop-ups worked in Netscape 4. But on the ones that didn't work, I designated "on-click" and Voila!!!

I have no idea what the difference is between 'on mouse-down' and 'on-click', but the latter works and that's what I will be using from now on.

So thank you to you both - this is a most labor-saving extension for me! I just wasn't using it the way it was designed to be used...
