Hello DMX Team,

Having some problems.
I did confirm that ASP.NET is installed on the server
I did allow the "ASPNET" user full permissions on the upload folder
ASP Pure Upload 2.09 works fine by itself

When I add the SIP code it:
Only uploads "jpg" files but does not resize them.
Other file types(png, bmp, gif), it shows the blueflashprogressbar like it's uploading, but when it's done... No uploaded file, but the image filename has been stored in my database with the converted "jpg" file extention.
?????????

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Could you try to see first without SIP if all kind of files are uploaded.
Then also could you try another component with SIP - other then ASP.NET if you have other installed as well.

Hello George,

Thanks for the advice. Yes, the Pure ASP Upload will upload the other file extensions. Unfortunately, I don't have any other components to test. I tried installing the SIP COM component, but it didn't register on the "detect.asp" file. So I tried using the "Auto Detect" on the SIP extension, but I got the same results. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> I even tried to give special folder permissions to the "C:\WINNT\system32\.NET Framework\" folders to see if that was the problem. Still no change. ??

Thanks

I suppose you are using the latest SIP version?

If still so - let me know - I will send you another aspx file for the resize with .net that will do error reporting.

I have being reading with interest the problems
others are having with SIP, I am really interested
with the Mega bundle you have to offer and instead
of having likewise problems with your software and
my ISP's ASP.NET configuration, could you have
some where info that i can cut and paste to send to
my ISP requesting them to let me know
will your software be compatable with there servers.
I dont want to purchase your software only to be told later that my
ISP does not allow me usage, or that they want to charge me a more monies.
I have purchased your extensions and lots of others before and found them
really great but the mega bundle is an investment
for me so I need to make sure that my ISP will work with your software.

I will explain some most common problems:

1. Doesn't work at all or gives error

Check with www.dmxzone.com/demo/sip/detectSIP.zip if it detects the asp.net and if it creates an error or not. If it is not detected then your server has no ASP.NET or it is not installed correctly. If you get an ASP.NET error then often this is created by a bad web.config file. You must fix this or remove the web.config if you are not using this.

2. You checked that ASP.NET was installed correctly but still does notting.

Check the permissions of the folder where you do the resize in. ASP.NET has it's own user that it runs with, so it is not the IIS user.

3. Image does not resize but thumbnail is created correctly.

Does the ASP.NET user have delete permissions in the folder.

These are the most common cases that it does not work correctly with ASP.NET. In any other case contact me at

Hi,

I have recently bought SIP but not managed to get it working yet with similar problems to the other people on this forum.

I am successfully uploading the image every time, but it is not resizing or making thumbnail images for me. ASP.NET user has write permissions on the folder the images are being written to.

I have run the detectSIP.asp script and it detects fine - I am lost as I get no error or anything when the image is uploaded - its takes me to my chosen success page - could I have the debug version you mentioned and some help please to get this running? BTW - i am using ASPUpload 2.09.

Thanks

I have just got the latest version of SIP 1.1.1 and this together with the latest vesions of Pure ASP File Upload 2.1.3 and the Pure ASP Upload Addon Pack 1.7.0 have resolved all issues.

If anyone still has problems with this combination of tools, please make sure Script Blocking is turned off when running Norton Internet Security of the testing server.

George,

Still waiting for a fix, is there any reason why jpegs being uploaded are not being resized? Everything else works fine, uploading other files formats works fine, rename, thumbs etc.

Am getting worried I have wasted my time and money.

Please provide an answer soon.

OK!

I think I have a solution guys!

I have managed to get it working with Picture Processor (testing .net now) and it always managed to write the image and the thumbnail - however, no resize was being done!

BUT... I noticed the test file I was uploading (the image file) was smaller than the resize level - e.g. uploaded image was 50 pxs wide and high and the resize was told to go to 200 px wide and high - it doesnt upsize images! I tried uloading a BIGGER image and it works!

this seems like a problem with the components as I managed to get a stand alone image re-sizer and it had the SAME results - would downsize images but not upsize them!

Try it - you never know, something odd like this could be messing everyone up - USE A BIGGER IMAGE AS THE UPLOAD!

Nothing works at all!

I'm using Classic ASP, the supplied pictureprocessor dll, and ASP Upload 2.09. My folders have the proper permissions.

ASP Upload works just fine, but I get NO image resize and NO thumbnail creation, or any combination thereof with SIP. I have also tried Jpgs, Gifs, and Pngs with absolutely no success, and no erros. It simply acts as if I don't even have SIP, although it does do the redirect associated with the SIP settings.

I would appreciate immediate attention. Purchased and downloaded Monday, June 9, 2003

OK Here's the deal...I hacked the code and this is what I found.

After the ASP Upload code in the upload document is the SIP Code. All the parameters and variables laid out and calls to the resize and thumbnail functions. In MY particular case, the "pau_thePath" variable was not being set with the proper path. This may have something to do with the fact that the "Upload Folder" option does not show in my version of SIP. Although it has been said that SIP will use the folder chosed in ASP Upload, in MY case, this is not correct.

I added the path (ie. "../uploads" in place of the "pau_thePath" variable in the ResizeUploadedFiles call for both RUF_ResizeImages and RUF_MakeThumb.

VIOLA!!! The missing piece has been put in place and it all works like a charm.

For those of you who are not programatically inclined and suspect a similar problem, just do a search for "pau_thePath" in your upload document and replace with the virtual path to your upload folder (ie. "uploads". Because this path is a string, it needs to be in quotes.

DMXZone: Please let me know when this bug is fixed so I don't have to constantly put up with Dreamweaver's nagging and so I don't have to hack this everytime I want to use it.

thanx

The Smart Image Processor 1.1.0 and higher need the Pure ASP Upload 2.1.0 or higher. The pau_thePath variable is a variable that is introduced in version 2.1.0 of ASP Upload. So please upgrade to the latest versions.

I scoured through all of the sales information and documentation for SIP. It says it requires ASP Upload 2.x. Thus, 2.09 clearly qualifies. Although, I did find 1 instance that said 2.1 (which was puzzling).

"Fully integrated with Pure ASP Upload 2.x
The Smart Image Processor extension is able to resize the files that are uploaded with Pure ASP Upload 2.x" - Just copied and pasted from SIP description.

I wasted time, and was beginning to think money, debugging SIP because the documentation was incorrect. Please change all the documentation and make it UNMISTAKEABLY CLEAR what the requirements are for SIP.

In the future, I would appreciate more diligence when it comes to extension requirements and making sure ALL documentation is up to date and correct.

Unfortunately, this incident has made me seriously question the quality and reliability of not only GP's components, but all the components DMXzone sells. Based on some of the other posts to this forum and the prices we are paying for these components, it seems DMXzone need to have higher quality standards. I also think trial versions will be a necessary component to making any purchasing decisions in the future.

Hi folks,
I've gotten SIP to run successfully (both image resize & thumbnails) using asp.net. Here are some "rules of thumb" that may help you:
- Make sure "script stopper" is DISABLED in your virus software.
- Specifically choose your component (don't rely on Auto Detect)
- In the ASP Upload behavior, leave "After Uploading/Go To" BLANK (let SIP handle this)
- Make sure your permissions are set correctly. This can be more complicated than you think.
--IUSR must have CHANGE rights to your destination directory
--If using ASP.NET, I found that the group EVERYONE must have READ rights to the ScriptLibrary dir AND Modify rights to your destination dir. It may be possible to be more secure/restrictive with this.

On my home system with IIS, it's pretty open, and worked fine, but that wasn't the case with my ISP. They were able to adjust the rights and it's working great now.

Hope this helps someone...
Mark
