Exporting Popup Menu From Fireworks to Dreamweaver
05 Nov 2004 02:19:21 paul c posted:
I am currently build my navigation bar using Fireworks. I have exported to Dreamweaver. The nav bar has pop up menu. I did not put in the link for the category in the pop up menu, because I haven't create those pages. I am going to creat them later once I have set the template. My questions is How do I update the pop up menu links in Dreamweaver after I have created the pages I want to link with the pop up catagory?
If I have the NavBar (created in fireworks) in Dreamweaver now and lock non editable region for template, can I unlock it and update the links later?
Serious Questions! Do I create the template with the navigation bar in it, then us that template to make other pages. OR Do I create the template WITHOUT the navigation bar, then us that template to make the other pages. Then put in the navigation bar by editing the template. Can I unlock an non editable region. I am confuse wich step I do first.
I am an ULTIMATE BEGINNER in Dreamweaver please explain in detail. Thank you very much<font size=4></font id=size4>

well as you are an absolute beginner my advice is don't use templates.
what you want to do is create a page with all your stuff in, but leave the text areas blank (or use filler text), and save this as a normal html page or whatever and call it template.html for example. (NOT a template file, its just called template)
this way you have a template of the site and you can do whatever you like with it. to create new pages from it, open template.html add your text and whatever else and use File > Save As > and call it a different name. that way template.html will always remain blank with just navigation and headers in etc..
to modify the links on the pop up, go into code view and it is a big javascript where all the menu code is, what i normally do when creating the popup is put in adead link like "page.html" just so when i open the source code i can see exactl where my link code needs changing.

well sadly the downside is you need to edit every page, BUT, there is a way around this for small changes, by using Search and Replace.
i personally use server side includes, but they require the web host your with has dynamic server abilities asp/php etc..
really easy to learn and blow templates away. in my opinion anyway.
btw , im not tryin to confuse you here, just pointing you in the right direction <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
