This is definitely a huge bug!

My scrollable content contains links and text.

On Mac: Safari, the content that is hidden falls OVER any content below the scroller, and links inside the scroll-content are still clickable, and text is still selectable. In my layout, the scrollable layer, while hidden, covers my navigation and renders it unusable. This is only on Safari.

Please tell me you have a fix, and that I didn't just waste money on a buggy extension. A large portion of my site's users will be on Mac / Safari.

An expedited response is appreciated.

I'm sorry but I don't see this problem in Safari 1.3.2

Hello Marja,

I have the latest updated version of Safari, which is 2.0.4

On my test page: www.tfmovie.com/stuff/press.htm the Navigation below the two scrollers have rollovers. The scroll-content layers are covering the navigation, wven when hidden, making the Navigation rollovers useless. The Navigation buttons can't be clicked either. However, the links in the scroll-content can be clicked far below the visible area.

To see what is happening, scroll all the way to the bottom on each of the scrollers, and then roll over the Navation below -- the buttons will be working fine. But when the scrollers are default, at the very top, the hidden content is covering up anything below the visible area of the scrollers.

I have even played around with z-index to place the Navigation 'on-top' of the scroller layers, but below the Navigation, the links inside the scroll-content are still clickable.

This is a strange bug, since I thought the overflow:hidden would completely hide everything that is not visible. But on Safari, while hidden, the content is still active, and it also 'falls' on-top of everything under it.

Let me know if you see the bug now.

Thanks.

I don't have Safari 2.0.4, but this sounds more like a Safari bug than a Scroller Genie bug and I don't think there's much Scroller Genie can do about that.
These are regular CSS properties and the 'overflow:hidden' property should indeed hide and disable everything not visible.

How would you know that if you haven't tested it in the most recent version of a browser? <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> Safari is too popular of a browser to ignore.

I was hoping you would come up with a workaround for Safari, not just dismiss this as a Safari bug and leave it at that. I don't mean to sound rude, it's just that I feel that you should be testing your product thoroughly and report any browser incompatibilities on the product page.

What you might try is to actually place the scroller itself in the table instead of anchoring it to something in the table. Maybe that will help, as the scroller won't float 'above' the table then.

Hello again.

Placing the scrollers inside the table didn't solve the Safari bug. But it's a nice way to get the scrollers in place tho <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

The more I play with this the more I feel this must be JavaScript related. www.aiga.org/ AIGA has a scroller that does not have this problem. And they are using very similar CSS. Their JS is very different than yours, but in the end it works.

I have a very angry client riding me over this issue, and I have to figure out how to get around it. I appreciate your help, and hope you can help me come up with a workaround.

Thanks!
