I have a dynamic website (.ASP) with the image names stored in the database. Will DMXzone Lightbox work OK? Replies

Yes no problem at all! The DMXzone Lightbox script is very smart, it just checks all links that have the rel="dmxLightbox" attribute on them and have an image inside.
This will be automatically shown in a lightbox, no matter how they are generated.
So even with dynamic image you can add lightbox functionality on it.

George

This looks like a great extension, exactly what I need - but there’s one thing putting me off from going ahead and making the purchase. I already purchased the Advanced Tooltips extension in August 2008 hoping to do the same thing, a thumbnail with a popup, full-size image. It worked as promised but seriously slowed down page load time. After applying Advanced Tooltips to a page that previously loaded in 3 seconds the page then took 35 seconds to load. If Lightbox slows down page load time by a similar amount then unfortunately it would be unusable (as Advanced Tooltips proved to be).

HI Alastair,
The big difference between Advanced Tooltips and DMXzone Lightbox is that the tooltips needed many images for their designes, round corners etc. This means many calls to the server to get them even if they are small files.
However now with the DMXzone Lightbox we have all drawn Lightbox with the browser canvas control! This means that all the borders of the Lightbox and their corners are all drawn and no fake images are used! This results in small and fast download as well speedy response time!

Hi George - when I applied Advanced Tooltips I selected Style Theme "none" i.e. without any borders or corners to load but it still made numerous calls on the server, hence the 35 second load time. How many server calls and what sort of response time could I expect with Lightbox?
Thank you for your patience.

HI Alastair,
35 seconds load time is awful long time. There is definitely somewhere else a problem.
You can see easily the load time chart if you clear your cache, then load your site and check in Firebug the Net tab.
You can post a screenshot if you want so I can see what is wrong. Normal load times of the tooltips are +/- 1 second ... and as I said Lightbox is even faster ...

Hi George - I cleared the cache and took a couple of screenshots (before and after applying Advanced Tooltips - Style theme = None) and posted them at www.findaupair.com/advancedtootips.asp

Hi Alastair,
Yes indeed lots of graphic files for the tooltip design, but seems you haven't also uploaded the styles folder to your live server so they are not found!
You should make sure you upload them fully to your server

Hi George - I've uploaded all the files to the dmxTooltips folder and added a third screenshot - but it now takes even longer to load. www.findaupair.com/advancedtootips.asp

HI Alastair,
Well it seems to me your have a very bad hosting company or web server - the site loads sooo slow! No wonder you are having problems.
Similar tooltips here at DMXzone loads for 1-2 secs max

Hi George - if I have it set to Style theme = None, why does it have to get absolutely all of the graphics files every time a page loads, in the full range of colours and styles - blue, bluebevel, darkgreybevel etc? Around 200k in 100+ seperate files every time a page loads, that makes 100+ requests on the server and that's what's really slowing everything down.
