Here is my suggestion :

There is already three types of Topic : normal, locked, and Hot.

What about a Closed type ? A closed topic would mean that the issue has been solved. It could be closed by either zone manager or author...

It would help the user to focus on interesting/actual Topic rather than read all the answer to find at the end that the issue is solved. Of course the user would still have the possibility to read the thread...

What do you think ?

In some way, closed topic is the one that haven't been updated for some time.

Not obviously.

If there is 4 or 5 topics created between the last time you've looked at topic list, then you not always goes to look every topic you find.

I think this could be very useful to help browse and see wich one haven't been closed.

But this is only my opinion..

I like the idea to be able to find all posts that have been solved. But on the other hand: it is almost impossible to manage this. A moderator should followe EVERY post to see whether it has been solved or not. And he can only know when the original poster also makes clear that it really has been shown. And after that someone with the same problem might still want to ask further on the topic.

This would really mean a huge increse of work for our moderators, and they (me included) are already very very busy. So for now... we are not going to work on a solution for this. We have some more important features on our To Do list <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thanks for the feedback, and we will defenitely keep it in our minds.

Probably with more permissive rules, we should be able to find a solution, if you like the idea.

Usually if you post a topic that requires a solution to be find, then you (as the autor) follow the topic. Then someone comes with the answer. Then if you think you are satisfied with the answer or the problem as obviously been solved, then you (still as the author) can decide to close the topic.

You already have a schema to allow author of a post to modify/delete it, so would it take a lot of hours to make the same schema for topic ?

Maybe moderator won't have to close topics by themself.

BTW, if you'd like I'd be pleased to be in your team moderator (for PHP and MySQL)...But maybe do you have a procedure to do that ? <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

The way I see it, is that a locked topic IS a closed topic.

The topic can still be viewed, but no further posts can be added to it. I've already used this principle when a problem has been resolved in the PHP TalkZone to prevent other, non-topic (or new topic) posts from being added to the thread.

It works just the same, so why should there be a need for a Closed-topic ?

I think because the user cannot lock the topic by himself.
