Do you plan to upgrade to Dreamweaver MX 2004?

New version !
August 25, 2003 by Marcellino Bommezijn

I getting the feeling that these so called "new features" should have been there in the first MX release. Paying again for some enhancements ! It should be a FREE upgrade for all MX software owners.

And what about the integration of all current extensions ? Is the architecture also changed ?

The trial version must be damn good before making any "payed" upgrades !!!!!

Will they really clear up FTP and CSS problems?

I'm happy to pay for most any upgrade, however these days it seems that most companies have gotten into the habit of simply charging $200 or more for upgrades to software that never works properly in the first place.

Within Dreamweaver (and for that year, Ultradev), the most basic problems involving FTP connections/transfers and CSS have never been fixed, in any version. With each upgrade I hope that problems get fixed, yet they never are.

Simply enabling "secure FTP" won't fix the problems with the entire Site interface if the root FTP engine itself isn't retooled. Similarly, what good will enhanced CSS validation be if it doesn't apply styles properly in the first place?

I'll be a sucker and fork over the $200 for the upgrade regardless, if only because when you don't upgrade then Macromedia makes you feel like a complete leper if you even dare ask for support.

If it gets CSS right then it will be worth it in productivity.  I spend hours fixing CSS.

Too Expensive

I would love to keep up to date with all the luvly software in the world but there are too many so called `updates' released with little or no benefits except to the cash flow of the developers.

I've bought all the versions of Dreamweaver (including `shudder' Drumbeat) since it was first released - but US$399 seems like a steep price for the upgrades described.

I don't use the built in FTP facility it doesn't suit the way I work, so what else is there??

By the way, US$399 is over $700 here in Australia ... a pretty steep `upgrade'!!!

I'll upgrade!

I'm going to upgrade. I have tried the trial and I like it. The CSS Support is great and is where I want to move to with the sites we build. One thing though, why have they not fixed this simple little thing in the FTP:

When you click on synchronise, it gives you a list of files it will update/delete but when you scroll through using the arrows on scrollbar, they go all fuzy and you cant read them. You have to scroll another way. Trivial, I know but small things like that annoy me.

All in all, it's a cool update but think the price should be half what it is. Should have been version 6.1 and not 7.0.

Cheeurs...

I will wait another 6 months

I will wait until they get rid of all the bugs in MX 2004, that will be about 6 months, also I will need to know will all my commercial extensions still work, not like upgrading from UD to MX which was a pain.

Being a long time supporter and user of MM products I feel the price to upgrade is out of line! For me to pay $400.00 for little changes is too much. I'm using MX and the FTP doesn't work so I use Fetch, CSS doesn't work so I use Style Master. Is there a good reason for me to upgrade at this time!! You tell me....! Best wishes and good luck...Colin
