Apple has issued 10 fixes for flaws in OS X that several security firms are calling "critical." Not installing the patches produced by Apple could result in hackers being able to remotely access your computer and change your administration privileges or mismanage data on your computer.
For example, by crafting an corrupt gif image, an attacker could trigger a buffer overflow in ImageIO (this is an java tool used to display images) Resulting in the ability of the attacker to execute arbitrary code on the machine.
