Dreamweaver's built-in repeat region server behavior allows only for vertical repeat regions, i.e., repeating table rows. One can manipulate the repeat region into a horizontal layout by manually moving the code into the "td" tags. However, that limits the region to two side-by-side table data cells. If you try to enclose the resulting row in a second repeat region, Dreamweaver responded that "this server behavior does not allow nested repeat regions."

The idea would be to accommodate a layout similar to:
record1 record2
record3 record4
and so on for however many rows you wanted.

An update on the request for a "horizontal looper" behavior for Dreamweaver in php: Felixone has an extension called "Bidimensional repeat" that does just what I was looking for. If anyone else is looking for this, it is at http://www.felixone.it/extensions/prod/mxbren.asp
It works for me in CS5 on Vista, with current versions of php and MySQL.
