Intergrating Python as default IIS interpreter for server side markup
Can inline markup of VB be seamlessly replaced with that of Python, given config changes are made both to IIS and DMX? Are there any IIS, Application features, Objects, Methods/Properties commonly used by VB which python would be incapabile of also utilising?
VB as a languages is a relic best left to gather dust and soon to be replaced with Microsofts answer to Java, struts based design - .NET, though IIS is a common and easy to use webserver, though without taking the next leap into costs of hosting XP-Server/.NET is there any good documentation on how to side step and perhaps integrate Python inplace of ASP.dll and configure DMX to develope with this in mind or would PHP or JSP present the most obvious transistion in order to develope in a legible syntax.
Are there any show stoppers in doing so, eg. are all objects, methods referenced in ASP available, can the DLL remain loaded at all times so that it is not instantiated each time a py page is called, and can syntax/ auto_complete libraries be added to DMX to recognise inline python markup, the code ide adapt to nesting etc? Are there issues with server side technologies, user_accounts, etc?
Its seems one must weight up the pros and costs b/n a half legible commercial language with comprehensive documentation into all of its short comings, v's a well though out, yet barely supported open source alternative and constantly be digging for any relevant information to achieve rather common teething issues.
Is Pythons use in Microsoft related web technologies best just left to basic CGI and COM? Or can it be an effective substitute for VB's inline markup in Active Server Pages?
