We at DMXzone are happy to announce our latest adventure. We are adding professional content to DMXzone starting May 15 at a very low introduction price per article of $1.99.
We have contracted world renowned writers that will be writing new articles especially for DMXzone on a daily basis. You as a member will be able to see an overview of the article and when you decide to purchase the article you can either read it online or download it to your computer.
Just to make it clear, DMXzone is still a free website for developers, by developers. Registration is free, you can still add your own articles, tutorials and extensions. All articles currently on DMXzone will stay free, and new articles submitted by members will remain free. The paid articles will supplement, not replace, the community information that makes DMXzone the great community it is.
Down here you will see a question and answer session regarding to our new adventure:
Q: Why are you charging for some content?
A: The professional articles will be pay-per-view so you just buy the ones you need. The price is kept to a low $1.99, which means its very affordable, but helps us cover our costs and allows us to reward the hard work of the professional authors and reimburse them for their time spent contributing regularly to the community.
Q: Does this mean an end to free content on the Zone?
A: Absolutley not! The articles already on the zone were offered as a service to the community by their authors and will continue to be free. Articles contributed under the present system will continue to be free.
Q: Who are the "premium" authors?
A: We're still finalising contracts, but they are names that you've heard of either in the dmxzone community, published authors from the Wrox Press/ glasshaus books, or people from the Team Macromedia forums. All big, respected names in their field.
Q: Can I buy a subscription to the articles?
A: Not yet. We will probably offer a subscription service that will save money for those who buy a lot of articles. Because a subscription costs us less in payment provider costs, it will be cheaper for you - but we intend to continue to offer the pay-per-view for those who buy only occasionally, to make it maximum value for you and maximum royalties for the authors.
Q: I'd like to write. Who do I contact?
A: Contact Bruce or Martha at
Bruce@dynamiczones.com or
Martha@dynamiczones.com for information. If you haven't written before, we suggest that you cut your authorial teeth by contributing content in the current way. Your article will be rated by the community, and you'll soon get a good idea of how your writing style is appreciated. This is how many of our "professional" authors originally came to our attention and got their author deals!

Thank you Microsoft!
Thank you Microsoft, for showing us all how to make money on this industry by taking hobbyists' interests and charging for them!
As a low income college kid, it's exciting to see that the open source, free information, "do it for fun", mentality is being crushed by the great capitalism concept! YAY!
