I agree, whilst a subscribe feature is probably straight forward to code, it is almost expected in this day of spam and anti-spam laws. Please add this feature.

You can simply make a link in your mail template with an userid in the querystring that goes to a page on your site and there you search the database to the userid and uncheck the newsletter field.
Perhaps an idea for a tutorial.

Just my $0.02 here, but the purpose of this component is not to provide a complete mailing-list-management system, just to provide a conduit for delivering content to a list.
I've put together dozens of contact database systems for my clients and each one has its own unique customizations; I'd really hate to see a component like this go the route of bloatware and try to add every little piece of funtionality.
If you've got a mailing list contained in a DB, setting up an unsubscribe feature should be as easy as it gets.
I'd much rather see MXZone folks working on better documentation and fixing current bugs than setting up unnecessary tutorials.

I don't think it is an unnecessary tutorial since users seem to have problems with it.
For us bug fixes is most important and we do our best to make the documentation as best as possible.

Hey all,
I was looking to do a simular thing and I was simply surprised on how easy it is.
Let me explain what I did. (You may already be here)
Basically? I pull the email address that SmartMailer is about to use to send an email and send it along to the template via the querystring.
<b>sm1.setBody_Template_html</b> email_link & "&email=" & email
See code below...
The best part of this component is the ablility to create one content template that can be used for a website and as an email blast. With this small addition you now know whether or not the template is involved in a mail blast. If the querystring has email in it, it's being emailed. Now you can alter the display of page for the web or email dynamically. For example, you would not want to have "remove me from this email" on the bottom of a news story on your website...
<%
while not sm1.toRecord.EOF
no_mail_record = TRUE
' this next part is for me... you don't have to use this but I use the rsMailer recordset to grab the current email address and pass it to another program...
email = rsMailer.Fields.Item("email"
.Value ' my own needs
call check_email_sent()
if no_mail_record = TRUE then
' I added some carriage returns for clarity...
sm1.setTo sm1.toRecord.Fields.Item(sm1.toRecordName).Value,
sm1.toRecord.Fields.Item(sm1.toRecordEmail).Value ' this is the user's email addy
sm1.Subject = subject
' using template for body
' variable "email_link" is my own passed into this prog. making it dynamic.
sm1.setBody_Template_html email_link & "&email=" & email
' Attachments none
sm1.sendMail "multiple"
end if
rsMailer.MoveNext()
Wend
Hope this is interesting for someone, I get so much from all of you in the forums I felt I wanted to share something...
