CSV or Text Import

What You Want Is Not An Extension
January 22, 2003 by Dan Jallits

This is not an extension. This is a Web Application. The difference being that an extension enhances the ability of a Macromedia product. What you are asking is outside the realm of a Macromedia product. What you want to do is contact a Web Developer to fullfill your companies needs.

You may want to post a contract on a site such as eLance.com. Make sure you read the terms and conditions before doing so though. I'm sorry and I hope this helps.

Well I have to disagree. This can be definately solved with an extension. I'm currently planning such an extension that will allow you to map the CSV fields with your database fields - so an import can be done automatically.

Just like you upload an image file and save its name to the database with an extension - why not have an extension that will auto import a CSV file?

I've very inteterested in an extension like this.

Is there an extension that will export data from a SQL or ACCESS DB into a csv file?

Thanks,
Michael

What's you progress on this? If you have something and I haven't seen it, please let me know. I'm about to spend a couple of days creating this but hell I'd rather have something like you've done ready to go!

Importing a CSV file into an Access database
July 23, 2003 by James Hutt

I suggest you check out the following link to an article I came across a short while ago. It’s in German but you can translate it using the translation services provided by http://www.uk.altavist.com.

http://www.aspfaq.de/?FID=100&ELE=8707

With a little imagination the code can be adapted to take input from an ASP form. For example, you might want to import a data file and then assign a customer ID to the records you just imported. Create a page that allows you to select your customer. Submit the form making sure you pass the customer ID onto the following .ASP page. In the next page you can use the code to import your data into a temporary table. Once the data has been imported you could run an SQL update statement against your temporary table updating the customer id column using the customer id you selected from the previous page. After your update has finished you could pop in a redirect statement taking you to a third page you need to setup which will show you all the records you just imported.

Takes a little work but its great to watch.

Hi George

I know the talk of the possibility of this extension was quite some time ago, but I wonder if anything was ever developed

Thanks
