Dynamic Sorting

I don't know if this is a problem but it seems to be, based on looking at the demos. A common requirement when displaying search results is to enable the user (website visitor) to choose how the results are sorted (eg alphabetically or by price ascending or descending etc.). As far as I could see, the sort feature of this extension only allows for static/pre-defined sort criteria. Is there a way to use dynamic sort criteria and still make use of the extension? It seems like a fundamental omission, but perhaps it's just not clear in the demo. Thanks.

Hello Tom,

Yes, of course this is possible using DMXzone Database Connector and Control Behaviors!
Tomorrow we are going to show you with a Video Tutorial how to achieve this.

Based on the video, it doesn't look like there is an option for dynamic sorting. What I mean by dynamic in this case, is assigning the sort parameters to a variable, so they can be retrieved from a user record in a database, a URL parameter, a session variable or a cookie etc.. There are many situations where this is useful - eg a simple popup list to choose a sort option (like on Amazon's site).

Perhaps this is possible, but just wasn't clear from the video without seeing the code. It seemed that it was necessary to create a series of static sort criteria. Using the method in the video, is the selected sort maintained if a user pages through search results?

Hello Tom,

You can use cookie, session or app variable in order to filter the database results. The Sorting options are the ones shown in the video tutorials.

I think the only way to see how this is possible is to buy the extension. It doesn't seem to be apparent from the manual or demos.
Thanks.
