I may be doing something dumb (I'm new to these), but having set up a connection using the Connector, and then playing with the connection using HTML5 data source, everything tests out great. But when I 'OK' out, there isn't a single line of code in the .asp page I'm working on to reference the generated files. Am I meant to be doing something?

Hello John,
Could you please provide a step by step explanation what exactly are you doing?

Well, not really, unless you want to spend all afternoon reading it. In brief:
- I have created and tested my connection - it works.
- I have created and tested my data source - it works.

I am sitting at the Database Source Query Builder, having just tested ok. I click 'Apply'. I click 'OK'. It exits. I can go back in and see the data source again, and test it again.

But there is no code in the asp file that wants to call all the stuff that's been created in subdirectories! Dreamweaver agrees: in the file list at the top, where the dependent files are shown, non of the files that have been generated by the builder are referenced.

You just create a database connection ... of course no code is inserted on the page.
You need to create a data source from this connection, and then insert your bindings on the page...

According to my ISP, which is being particularly hopeless at present, none of the files I sent have gone. It's clear it's not the full set, as I did create a data source. I've set up a dropbox invitation for you, where you can see all the files and the video.

But reading between the lines what you are saying is that if you use Database Connector, you MUST use HTML5 Binder, and you MUST use the Bindings Formatter, then you MUST use the Database Updater, and so forth ...

If that's the case (not a problem for me, I have them all), then I think you could be a little clearer on the docs. You do say that later products depend on Connector, but what you don't say is that Connector has no directly usable function on its own. Or do you document somewhere how to use the connector without the other products (I may have just sourced a better binder, for example)?

"of course no code is inserted on the page" - other products do put code into the page for the connection, even if it's just a reference to an external javascript file. Dreamweaver itself does this.

I am really not sure what exactly do you mean.
When you create a database connection using DMXZone Database Connsctor - there are folders being created and uploaded to your remote server. -> dmxDatabaseSources and dmxConnections

Then, when from this database connection you create a database source the database source file gets uploaded into the dmxDatabaseSources folder on your server.

The two steps above have absolutely NOTHING to do with any reference links on your page... no links are placed on the page, yet you are defining the database connection and the database source for you whole site, not for the current page only... the extension is expected to work like that.

OF COURSE DMXzone Database Connector REQUIRES HTML5 Data Bindings - how else can you PLACE the database content on your page?!?! Formatter and Database Updater have nothing to do with displaying the dynamic data on the page.

And then .... when you go and define a DATA SOURCE from the DATABASE SOURCE you created, then click OK ... all of the needed links are place on your page. And you can start adding repeat regions, bindings etc on the page.

From what i see in your last post you just did not check the product documentation/tutorials.

I pretty much explained what are you doing wrong. I highlighted the things that you haven't done.
In your screenshots all that you do is to create a Database Connection. Follow the tutorials and my explanation below and you will see what are you doing wrong or not doing at all.
In order to show database data on your page you need to simply:
1. Setup a database connection
2. Create a database source
3. Create a data source using this database source
4. Use the created data source and bind data to your page

From your explanation and screenshots i see that you only created a database connection (1.) ... I can't understand why are you looking for some includes or links to files on your page - this is nothing that affects your work as you don't need to see, open, edit, alter these files.

Well, thanks i have just watched your video and what i see exactly what i tried to explain you several times.
In your video you do not create a data source. You create a Database Source, and then you stop and start looking for some files (find: dmx) that should not be there (on your page) anyway...

So, let me explain what i see in the video step by step:
1. Setup a database connection - OK

FULL SIZE

2. Create a database source - OK

FULL SIZE

3. Create a data source using this database source - NOT OK / MISSING
How it should be done:
a) In the Data Bindings Tab select - Data Sources, then click the add new button

FULL SIZE

b) In the Data Source dialog, select the datasource type: Database Source, select the database source you created, add a name for this Data Source, and click the OK button:

FULL SIZE

4. Use the created data source and bind data to your page - Now you see the code and the data source in the HTML5 Data Bindings Panel, so you can start adding the data on your page!

FULL SIZE

The same explained in the following tutorials:
1. www.dmxzone.com/go/22073/setting-up-a-database-connection-using-dmxzone-database-connector
2. www.dmxzone.com/go/22074/defining-a-database-source-in-dmxzone-database-connector
