I am currently building a site that tracks the visitors by their ip address and the Geographic long / lat coordinates; i would then like to add the he Geographic location of the Visitors IP address into the DMXzone Googlemaps2 map displayed on the page. Is there anyway I can get the Googlemaps2 Longitude / Latitude variable to use the variable I have collected from the Visitors IP Address information ?

Any feedback would be appreciated?

Hello Gary,
Are you storing the Latitude and Longitude into a database?

Good afternoon Teodor

Yes I am storing all the visitor details into a MYSQL Database; I know I could import the Long / Lat coordinates from the database into the Googlemaps2 , however I was not sure how to get the Long / Lat coordinates of the "realtime" IP address representing the current website visitors location?

I see there is a new extension called "GEO Location" Is this what I need to make this work?

The realtime geolocation of an user can be displayed on google maps using the HTML5 Geo Location extension: www.dmxzone.com/go/22795/real-time-position-tracking-with-dmxzone-google-maps-2
however, the extension cannot show the IP address of the visitor.
Also - you can use the HTML5 Geo Location extension with the DMXzone Database Connectior and DMXzone Database Updater, which are ajax based - and you can show the latest N-visitors on the map (where N is a number set by you) from your database: www.dmxzone.com/demo/php/HTML5GeoLocation/LocationSharing/index.html like on this showcase.

Thanks Teodor for the quick reply.

I know there are lots of API's offered to Websites that do what I am looking for however I was trying to use the DMXzone Googlemaps2 to also do this based on the IP Address which I have then reversed to discover the Geographic Location. I have all of the data which I have stored and so can show all the previous visitors but no "realtime" using the IP Address. Am I correcy in thinking that the HTML5 Geo Location extension uses the GPS Location of the Websites Visitors smart device?

HTML5 Geo Location uses the location provided by the GPS sensor (if such) on the device of the user, otherwise it uses the location provided by the network.

Just read what you said about (where N is a number set by you) from your database - So in theory I could tell Googlemaps2 to look at the very last entry in MYSQL, however saying that I guess it depend on how many Visitor hits I was receiving simultaneously?

To Be Honest I think HTML5 Geo Location is what I am looking for, however the End User needs to agree to disclose their GPS Location. I will scratch my head and give this some thought for a little longer to see if I can figure out a way of importing the Realtime Lat / Long data for the person looking at the webpage at that time.

Again thanks for your help.
Best regards
Gary

IP addresses, often shrouded in technical jargon, are fundamental components of our digital world. An IP address, short for Internet Protocol address, is a numerical label assigned to every device connected to a computer network, enabling communication. But what do they really represent? To discover your current IP address, you can visit the website whatismyip.

At their core, IP addresses serve two crucial roles: network interface identification and location addressing. They are what allow data to find its way from your device to its intended destination. Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) defines IP addresses as 32-bit numbers, separated by periods, such as 192.0.2.1.

IP addresses are not just random numbers; they hold the power to identify your device on the internet or a local network. Understanding what these addresses signify is the first step in unraveling the mysteries of the digital realm, making them less daunting and more accessible to all.
