For anyone wondering whether this extension a) works or b) is overpriced or c) is over-hyped, the answers are yes, it works; no, it is not overpriced; and no, it is not over-hyped.

I used it today for the first time, and the galleries it creates are indeed mind-blowing. The code it generates is clean and simple to modify, if you want to modify it manually. I used it for a large gallery of more than 180 very large images. The extension worked perfectly, and the finished gallery plays flawlessly.

I also used the dmxzone mp3 player extension to add a series of mp3 files to play in the background, and that worked equally well. All of it was easy to do, and with the simplicity of the code, it will be easy to modify or duplicate for other equally large image collections.
