Fake news spread by worm
THE LATEST Kedebe-F worm has been fooling users into downloading its poison payload by pretending to come from news sites.
According to the media friendly Sophos, the worm spreads by sending out bogus news tidbits. Among the breaking news in worm land is a yarn that Osama bin Laden has been captured. Another one says that the author of the MyDoom worm has been arrested. Other versions spout a conspiracy theory about the death of the late Pope John Paul II or claim that Michael Jackson has snuffed it.
W32/Kedebe-F only works on Windows that spreads by sending emails using its own SMTP engine and by coping itself to the shared folders. In other words it is not exactly new technology and will be eaten by most virus checkers.
