Latest Flash Player now for Linux
Adobe Systems released a Linux version of the latest Flash Player, software that can compete with the latest Windows and Mac OS releases.
The ActionScript Virtual Machine that executes JavaScript programs on Web pages has been made open-source. The Mozilla Foundation, which oversees the Firefox Web browser, houses the open-source JavaScript project, called Tamarin.
Adobe has not released other parts of the Flash Player and the company says it doesn't have plans for making additional elements open-source.
The new version will be distributed along with the software from the two major commercial Linux powers, Red Hat and Novell, Adobe said Wednesday.
