Google's Next-Gen of Sneakernet
Google engineers invented "FedExNet", a new generation of Sneakernet which they use to end an arduous process of transferring massive quantities of data.
Sneakernet is a term used to describe the transfer of electronic information, especially computer files, by physically carrying removable media from one computer to another.
The project comes out of Chris DiBona, the open-source program manager at Google, when setting the stage for what will be the largest data transfer for a project ever: The near totality of all the astronomical data and images ever - about 120 terabytes.
