Google Launches tool that enables offline web applications
Google Gears (BETA) is an open source browser extension that enables you to:
Store and serve application resources locally
Store data locally in a fully-searchable relational database
Run asynchronous Javascript to improve application responsiveness |
It can be downloaded as a broswser plug-in from the Gears website. The first tool that is compatible is Google Reader, an RSS reader. The company is also working to enable office applications like Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets for offline use.
The plug-in is compatible with Firefox and Internet Explorer and will support Safari in the near future. Adobe has announced to include the Gears-api's in Apollo.
