Persistent Layer Pro Manual FAQs Support

Persistent layers do not scroll with the rest of the page content, but stick to a fixed position in the browser window.

This behavior makes a selected layer persistent in one of the following ways:

  • to the left/top, the right/top, the left/bottom or the right/bottom corner of the browser window;
  • centered horizontally, if desired in combination with top or bottom;
  • centered vertically, if desired in combination with left or right;
  • centered both horizontally and vertically.

Overview

Fantastic Features

Cool Features:

  • possibility to specify that layer should persist:
    • on window resize AND while scrolling
    • ONLY on window resize
  • if persistent while scrolling, possibility to specify that the layer should persist:
    • on each scroll movement
    • only if it is about to be scrolled off the page.

Some important additional features:

  • Specify that a layer should only move when it is about to be scrolled off the page, whereas in the previous versions the layer always moves on each scroll movement.
  • Specify that a layer should only move when the browser window is resized, but not when scrolling.
  • Anchor a layer permanently to eg. the right and/or the bottom border of the window or to the horizontal and/or vertical center, so that it moves with the window border when the window is resized.
    To some extent this is also possible with CSS techniques in version 5+ browsers, but older browsers like Netscape 4.x don't support that.
    Persistent Layer Pro can accomplish this in a way that is compatible with all major browsers on PC and Macintosh.

Enhanced Dreamweaver MX Interface

In this version we are introducing a new user friendly interface to make the usage of Persistent Layer Pro a truly enjoyable experience for you. A new tab interface visually divides all the options in a structural ordered interface.

Extended Online Help included

In this PRO version we are including extended online documentation with a tutorial and a demo to get you started right away!

Technical enhancements

  • using onScroll and onResize events in IE on PC instead of loop, and
  • much compacter scripts.

Exceptional cross-browser compatibility

The behavior has been tested to be compatible with all major browsers on PC and Mac.

Marja Ribbers-de VroedWell, what's there to tell?

I worked as a software engineer for a well-known Dutch software company for about 10 years. But then I decided I did not want to work there anymore.
Since then, I've been working with my husband in our own company.

I "discovered" web development early 2000, and I soon found out that I could actually create my own extra (DHTML) features in Dreamweaver by building custom extensions.
My first extension was Cross-browser AutoScroller, but I've developed several other ones since then.

Another great extension by Marja! I recommend it to anyone wanting to create this type of DHTML.

Persistent Layer

December 2, 2004 by Dan Gunter
Great extension. Using it in ASP reports to maintain headers and when necessary left column titles. Makes it easy to read extensive reports that are many pixels wide. Experiencing one small problem. When I persist two layers and have less than 15 or so rows of data, the left column titles layer does not persist the entire scrolling left to right. The left column persist layer persists to a little over half way across the horizontal. I experimented when many settings and layer variations, but problem still persists. Problem does not exist when I have more than 15 rows of data. Layer scrolls across entire horizontal movement. Otherwise, the extension is a good enhancement to my reports. Thanks.
