Microsoft Readies 'A1' Security Subscription Service

According to Microsoft-Watch, Microsoft is planning to introduce a new subscription service code-named "A1". It is unknown yet if Microsoft will use the technology from anti-virus vendor GeCAD and anti-spyware maker Giant Company Software last month.

Microsoft officials have said the company is planning to make some form of its anti-spyware product available as a free tool. But that isn't the ultimate plan, partner sources said.

Microsoft is currently expecting to field its A1 anti-spyware/anti-virus bundle in the form of a renewable subscription service, the same way a number of other security vendors do, sources said. The service will allow users to keep current on the code needed to combat ever-changing viruses, worms, spybots and the like.

SQLite Database which one is the fastest?

The race is on at sqlite.org where they conduct a series of speed tests for Linux databses using SQLite 2.7.6, PostgreSQL 7.1.3, and MySQL 3.23.41.

SQLite finish first, MySQL is the runner up, with PostgreSQL trailing the pack.

Note to Access users: MySQL can do 25,000 inserts in two seconds. SQLite can do it in less than one second. While Access is great for desktop work, I shudder to think how it would stack up in this test.

Microsoft wishes Firefox a secure Xmas

Microsoft Internet Explorer has it's fans. One claims that Firefox isn't as safe as people tend to think. Although the writer states that IE might have its own security issues, he reckons that Firefox has some pretty significant problems of its own.

He doesn't like downloading it from the mirror site, and warns about security issues such as backdoors during the installation process.

Is it a myth, substance or huge flame war?
