Flash MX 2004 and Flash MX Professional 2004 Version 7.2

Updates for Flash MX 2004 were released on July 27th to fix bugs and improve performance and stability. Originally available for English, French, and German language versions more local language versions are being added and, at the time of writing, Italian and Spanish versions had been made available.

It does appear that there are a couple of little hiccups associated with the new release:

  1. Some Windows users are apparently being prompted to activate other Macromedia products they had already activated. This can lead to cycles of reactivation and relaunch. If this is happening to you, try the Product Reactivation Hot Fix.
  2. Some Mac users using units with multiple Ethernet ports are apparently being asked to reactivate Flash after installing the upgrade. They are then seeing an alert telling them the product has been activated too many times. To sort this out users are being requested to speak to Macromedia Activation Support.

Win a copy of Beginning ASP.NET 1.1. Databases

In some of the entries to our last competition a number of people asked us about various aspects of ASP.NET. There were even those <gasp> who suggested they used Visual Studio alongside Dreamweaver.

In immediate response, and in conjunction with Apress, we're giving you the chance to read a sample chapter (available here) from the forthcoming Beginning ASP.NET 1.1 Databases book by experienced .NET authors Dan Maharry and Damien Foggon.

Of course we've twisted the publisher's arms on your behalf, and have five books to give away to registered DMXzone members. All we want from you is to know either which bits of ASP.NET you've found most useful, or which you've found hardest to get to grips with. Lucky entries will be extracted by a draw from the inbox on the 22nd July!

PHP 5 Released

PHP 5 has finally been released. A few small bugs were fixed from Release Candidate 3 and it's now official. What's in it – well for starters there's a new Zend engine, new XML support, a new MySQL extension, and you get SQLite (a SQL database engine that can be embedded directly into your applications) bundled in the download.

Check out Allan Kent's guide to installing PHP5 on Windows.
