Web Addresses may Adopt non-English Characters
The Internet may be getting friendlier for a significant chunk of the world. A proposal is up for a vote to let Web addresses use non-English characters.
The proposed change (PDF), known as Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), will allow the use of non-Latin characters in the entire address. Currently, such characters are allowed only in part of the address. IDNs will let people who write in Chinese, Korean, or Arabic use their own languages to surf the Web, and is expected to jump-start Internet use in many regions across the globe.

Google's official blog put in a plug for the ongoing flow of companies that have adopted its services, including not just Google Apps, but also the Postini spam filtering and Google's Enterprise Search Appliance. According to the company more than 2 million businesses and 20 million people have switched to Google Apps, a movement Google is touting through its expanding "Gone Google" marketing program.

Visual Studio 2010 to launch in March
Microsoft announced that Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Beta 2 are already avaiable to MSDN subscribers; general availability will follow on Oct. 21. The company also outlined a simplified product lineup and pricing options for Visual Studio 2010 as well as new benefits for MSDN subscribers, including the Ultimate Offer, available to all active MSDN Premium subscribers at the official product launch on March 22, 2010.
