Career in the national team
Bono was eligible to represent either the Canadian or Moroccan national teams, ultimately choosing the latter. His journey with the Moroccan national team began with playing for the under-20 team at the Toulon tournament, before being included as a substitute at the London Olympics.

His first team debut came in a friendly match against Burkina Faso in August 2013, where he played the entire second half. Under Hervé Renard's leadership since the beginning of 2016, Bono has become the team's second-choice goalkeeper after Mounir El-Mohammadi. Although he was part of the squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, he did not see any playing time.

In May 2018, Bono was selected for the World Cup in Russia and later played a crucial role as first-choice goalkeeper during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, notably achieving draws against Namibia and Ivory Coast.

His outstanding performances continued until the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar, where he played a key role in Morocco's historic march. Remarkably, he saved two shots in the penalty shootout against Spain, helping Morocco reach the quarter-finals for the first time in World Cup history. His exceptional performance earned him the man of the match award. Bono's impressive contribution continued when he played clean against Portugal in the quarter-finals, helping Morocco become the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals. https://yassine-bounou-ar.com/
