Converting text to columns in Excel is a common task when you have a single column of data that you'd like to split into multiple columns based on a delimiter (e.g., a comma, space, or tab) or fixed width. Here's how you can do it:

Using the "Text to Columns"
1 Select the Data:
a) Open your Excel workbook.
b) Select the column that contains the text you want to split.

2 Navigate to the "Text to Columns" Feature:
a) Click on the "Data" tab in the Excel ribbon.
b) In the "Data Tools" group, click on "Text to Columns."

3 Choose Data Type:
a) A wizard will appear with two options:
  • Delimited: Choose this if your data is separated by characters such as commas, tabs, or semicolons.
  • Fixed Width: Choose this if you want to split the data based on specific column widths.

b) Select the appropriate option and click "Next."

4 Set Delimiters (if you chose "Delimited":
a) Check the box(es) next to the delimiter(s) that apply to your data (e.g., Tab, Semicolon, Comma).
b) You can also specify other delimiters in the "Other" box if they're not listed.
c) Click "Next."

5 Set Column Data Format (Optional):
a) You can specify the data format for each resulting column (e.g., Text, Date, General).
b) By default, Excel will set the format to "General."
c) Click "Next."

6 Finish the Process:
a) Decide where you want to place the split data. By default, it will replace the original data, but you can specify a different location if needed.
b) Click "Finish."
