When I first came to the States, I had no local education or certifications. I started to wonder what an HHA was and what options there were for getting started. I came across some useful information on the topic what is a caregiver- https://carepointpa.com/what-is-a-caregiver/ - it explains very well what a caregiver is and what they actually do. After that I signed up for a short course and after a month I got my first job. So, if you have the desire - it is realistic to start, even without experience. The main thing is to be open-minded, patient and not afraid to learn. Replies

This is very inspiring! I'm in a similar situation - recently moved, no local credentials, and didn't know where to start. Your story gives me hope. The link, by the way, was helpful too - it clearly outlines what a caregiver does. I'm starting to consider this direction seriously.

Thanks for sharing! It really is all about the desire and willingness to learn. I too have heard that many people start with HHA and then move on. Respect for not being afraid and giving it a try.
