Hi everyone! Does anyone know how online cricket betting is in India? I have read various articles but it is all very confusing. Is it even legal? And who controls this market? I know cricket is huge part of the culture, but what about the laws? After all, betting is money and there are always a lot of rules. Can someone explain what laws regulate online cricket betting and how safe it is? I am interested in the current situation, not what it was like 5-10 years ago.

This is a really complicated topic because the laws in India on betting are quite different in different states. In many places, online cricket betting is officially banned, but in practice, things are not so clear-cut. Cricket is so woven into Indian culture that it is difficult to imagine media and entertainment without it. Here is a useful article about how cricket influences modern Indian entertainment and media — https://www.mangalorean.com/cricket-in-modern-indian-entertainment-and-media/. It explains well why cricket has become a part of everyday life and how its popularity influences various spheres, including advertising and even technology. So betting is part of a huge industry, and although there are bans, many still look for ways to play.

I will add that cricket in India is not just a sport, it is a cultural phenomenon that affects almost everything: from cinema to advertising and social networks. In this regard, online betting is becoming even more popular, but also complex from a legal point of view. Many states regulate betting differently — in some it is almost prohibited, in others it is partially allowed. It is important to understand that the betting industry is associated with a huge flow of money, and therefore the authorities are closely watching it. But at the same time, technology and media support interest in betting, because for many it is part of entertainment.
