Anyone already done something similar and found a model that runs super quietly, even under load?

Hey folks, I’ve been working on converting my old crank sit-stand desk to an electric one and I’m trying to find the quietest linear actuator possible. I don’t mind a little humming, but I absolutely can’t have a loud motor — the desk’s in my shared home office and I’ve got Zoom calls most of the day. Anyone already done something similar and found a model that runs super quietly, even under load?

I was in the exact same boat a few months ago. My partner is a therapist working from home, so noise is a dealbreaker. I ended up using two PA-Quiet Actuators from Progressive Automations — they’re designed exactly for adjustable desk builds. What sold me was the low dB level during operation — you literally hear the creaking of the desk more than the motor. I wired them with a control box and memory switch, and it works great. Even when lifting my ridiculously heavy walnut top, they stay quiet and steady. Here's the link where I got mine if you want to browse linear actuators 12v :https://progressiveautomations.com.au/collections/linear-actuators
Just a heads-up: check the duty cycle if you’re planning frequent adjustments — not all models are designed for constant motion. But overall, super happy with mine, and setup was easier than I expected. Let me know if you want pics of the build!

Following this with interest. I haven’t converted my desk yet, but I’ve been considering doing the same. Noise level is definitely something I hadn’t thought about enough, so this is helpful. Curious to see if others have tried any other actuator types too.
