Microsoft is stepping further into the services space, with a new security product called Windows OneCare. Windows OneCare will use a combination of it's anti-spyware application, antivirus software, an improved firewall, and computer management features.

"According to the New York Times, Microsoft plans to enter the consumer antivirus business with a subscription service next year... Microsoft plans to expand the service beyond its 60,000 employees this summer and offer an open trial for consumers this fall. No date has been set for a commercial introduction, but the executive in charge of the new business said it would ultimately be offered as an annual service by subscription."

A Google posting on the site where users just last week were allowed to download the software now says, "Thank you for your interest in Google Web Accelerator. We have currently reached our maximum capacity of users and are actively working to increase the number of users we can support." Jupiter Research analyst Gary Stein told TechNewsWorld that nobody really knows what happened to Google -- except maybe Google.
The open source foundation is going to create an open source implementation of J2SE, and has Sun's approval to do so. The Apache Foundation has proposed creating an open source version of Java on the desktop.
Two vulnerabilities were identified in Mozilla Firefox, which may be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands. The first flaw is due to an input validation error, the second is due to an input validation error.
It may still be rumours, but the apple insider is speaking of an update for the Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger". According to their various contacts, the update will address issues with over three dozen components of the Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" operating system.

Security Advisory (May 8, 2005) The Mozilla Foundation is aware of two potentially critical Firefox security vulnerabilities as reported publicly Saturday, May 7th. There are currently no known active exploits of these vulnerabilities although a "proof of concept" has been reported. Changes to the Mozilla Update web service have been made to mitigate the risk of an exploit.
