First point, although I have created many websites over the last six years this is my first attempt at a dynamic website (I have no knowledge of this aspect).

I have installed Advanced HTML Editor 3 (AHE3) okay, and everything was working well until I tried to connect to the database. Having tried unsuccessfully many times I wrote to my provider (1and1) asking if they would provide me with the connection details requested by AHE3, that is, > Connection name, MySQL server, User name, Database etc.

I received this reply.

Please be informed that it is not possible for you to connect to the database server using a remote connection because it is blocked by the server. Shared hosting environment has limited functionality and also for the resources. We need you to copy and paste the link below for the confirmation about this issue.

faq.oneandone.co.uk/web_space__access/mysql/10.html

In desperation I copied and pasted the PHP code contained in the FAQ link (which I do NOT understand) into the test page containing the AHE3 form, changing the pro-forma details in the code to my database details. When I view in the browser, the test page has the message; "Connection to MySQL server db369882121.db.1and1.com successful!".

But that doesn't really solve the problem as I obviously need to be able to work on my PC. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? (Be gentle with replies - this is all new to me...)

Hello David,

Basically from your hosting provider have told you that you cannot access the database set on their server from remote host. That means that you will not be able to access the database in DreamWeaver.
You will need a local MySQL server running set up so you could create your Site locally and then transfer it on the remote afterwards.

Basically the easiest way to get yours MySQL and PHP environment is by setting up WAMP or MAMP (Windows Apache MySQL PHP or Mac Apache MySQL PHP)

Hi Miroslav,

Well, that's quick! I didn't expect a response so soon. many thanks.

Okay, I will try to install and get working WAMP on my PC. This is all new territory for me so I may fail with this one. The reason I bought AHE3 is because, looking at the videos and reading the PDF Tutorial, it seemed fool-proof - even for me.

If my attempt with WAMP fails I may have to go to a different ISP - one that will allow me to use AHE3 directly.

Again, thanks for your help. I'll come back sometime with progress.

Following-up and I moved forward but still have problems. Following your suggestion I have successfully installed WAMP (after many failed attempts - all the searches I made suggested I had conflicts and to delete X number of files - which I did). When I now view my test page in IE browser I am looking at LocalHost, not the internet. At the moment I do not see all the toolbars when viewed in the browser, but I wait until all the steps are complete and perhaps the toolbars will then be visible.

I followed all the steps on the DMXzone PDF Tutorial until I reached page 26 when I saw I needed a database. So I tried to set up a database on MySQL Admin Panel, but this is all new to me and I'm sure that I haven't done this correctly.

When I try to insert a record (as described on Page 26) I do not have the details shown in the tutorial. What are the co-ordinates for: Connection (I have none displayed), for Insert table (I have ***No Table Found) and the Columns section is empty? Obviously a big problem.

I am determined to learn how to use this application, even it is not as simple as I thought it would be. Is there a similar 'easy-looking' PDF that explains about setting up the database that is described on Page 26 so I can progress? Does anyone know?

Hello David,

You can find a bunch of tutorials on the net( videos in YouTube) as well in our Premium content for Setting up a database with table, setting up Dreamweaver connection and creating a page to populate the table.
