Pound symbol corrupts into strange symbols?

HiWhen I add the Pound sign £ either via the keyboard or using the add character in the editor tool bar when I go back to the page to view a agian in the office it has replace the £ symbol with the following - �
As a result it breaks my website
Do you know how I can resolve this?

Either your page is not using UTF-8 charset or your database collation is not utf-8-general-ci or both. Please check this.
