Extension Manager Improved with Great Peer 2 Peer Downloads

November 8, 2016

Peer 2 Peer downloads from the DMXzone community

Our developers worked really hard to improve DMXzone Extension Manager and today we're proud to announce its latest version. Now, the Extension Manager features one more section called Queue, where you can track your downloads. Thanks yo the great peer 2 peer technology and the DMXzone community members, now your downloads will be faster than ever! Below, you can see the full list of improvements in DMXzone Extension Manager.

The Story

Once you select an extension or template that you wish to install, from Purchased or Explore (if you have a subscription), it will appear in the Queue section, where you can follow the download & install process. You can also remove your tools from the Queue at any time if you feel like not seeding them with the other DMXzone members. The extensions will remain installed and usable with Dreamweaver and always to be viewed in the Installed section.

What's New in DMXzone Extension Manager 1.1.5

  • Greatly improved extension downloads with peer 2 peer technology for faster downloads and sharing in the DMXzone community
  • Improved UI to be more responsible and speedy
  • Improved Extensions installation process. Nothing gets blocked on the UI and you can continue to browse and install other extensions
  • Improved Dreamweaver CC 2017 detection

Not sure if I like this

That means that all clients using this update are working as peers for dmxzone's extensions. This has some advantages because it could mean that in peak times we can downlod updates faster than berfore. However, some with limited Inernet connections might not be aware that they are constantly seeding data if they don't remove their files from the queue. Also, DMXzone ExtensionManager is kept in RAM which consumes at least 150MB. If we bear in mind that Adobe starts A LOT of background tasks as well, even before having started Dreamweaver, it makes me feel even more uncomfortable. Would be nice to have the old version back as an alternative. If not, I would recommend to clear the queue after inastalling to avoid seeding uncontrollable data.

You have full control

Hi Greta, You can choose what ever or now you would like to help other DMXzone users with the download. If you just clear the files in the Queue tab after they have being downloaded and installed, you won't be sharing anything.
