Not really. The majority of people here don't use either NeXTensio or IMPAkT (yet), and as the product is still in beta you really should confine any comments/bug reports etc to the NeXTensio/IMPAkT bug tracker.

However, I recognize that there might also be some useability issues, or people might require help in using the extensions. So I am quite prepared to help in any way I can.

You should be aware though, that as both products are still in beta anything is liable to change before the final release.

okay. I'm assuming ImpAKT can not be installed along side of Phakt? (that's not in the documentation).

Also, excatly, what does Nextenso allow you to do? I got the list part... what else will it do?

You're right, IMPAkT can't be installed alongside PHAkT, and it isn't mentioned in the documentation. It is, however, self-evident really, as in the description IMPAkT is described as 'An improved PHAkT'.

As for a NeXTensio feature list.. well there is quite a comprehensive one at www.interakt.ro/products/NeXTensio/

Trust me.. someone will will get confused or try and install ImpAKT with Phakt already installed. But, that's what this fourm is for.

Okay, I'm gonna shut up and start using it. Any bugs I'll report to the bugtacker.. anything else I'll bring here.

I'm gonna install UD on another hardrive... with no extensions except ImpAKT and NeXTenso. I'll also use myODBC to avoid installing your JDBC extension (which I LOVE by the way).

Even easier. Copy your configuration directory, and call it something like 'PHAkT'.

Start the Extension Manager and remove PHAkT. Then install IMPAkT and NeXTensio. When you want to switch back to PHAkT rename your configuration folder to IMPAkT and your PHAkT folder to Configuration. Easy ! <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

And thanks for the compliment ! <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hey Tim,

Will yur extensions work with ImpAKT? In other words, is it safe to install them?

I haven't found any problems with any of them with IMPAkT, though again, if you find any that do have a problem, it could be because IMPAkT is a still in beta.

I haven't had any problems (yet) with any of my extensions when using IMPAkT, but it is something I'm keeping an eye on.

Having said all of this. If you use IMPAkT you must NOT use my ADODB Installer extension. The version of ADODB that IMPAkT uses has been modified, and using the ADODB installer WILL break the code.

Hey Tim,

What about converting from phakt to Impakt? I assume this is an issue. Also, is the release date still on track?

Converting from PHAkT to IMPAkT is an issue unfortunately.

Initially the plans were to develop an extension to convert a PHAkT site into an IMPAkT one. Unfortunately though, the sheer scale of this task would have meant that all development time would have been spent on that, so the idea has been put on hold for the moment.

The release data AFAIK is on track. I'm not sure how much work Alexandru and Bogdan have left to do, but it would appear that it is mostly tweaking and debugging now.

To give you a better idea, I will be performing final tests and debugging this weekend, whilst putting together the manual. (Doing it this way to ensure that the documentation is totally accurate).

Since Impakt is alomst out.. converting will be an issue. What do you suggest? I'm thinking of converting my current project to Impakt, when it's released. But, I will still have to revisit older projects when I have to update. I guess I could keep 2 configuration directories around?

Also, I am eagerly awaiting the release of Impakt/Nextenso.

I think the safest thing you could do would be to keep two configuration directories.

As it stands at the moment, the only option really to convert from a PHAkT to and IMPAkT website is to remove the applied behaviours using a PHAkT'ed UD and then Reapply them using an IMPAkT'd UD.

In this way, you would only really need to convert sites over on an "As needed" basis....

I'm lost. Is it true that you can't have IMPakT and Phakt installed together? In my "manage extensions", I have them both and assumed that they were working. I noticed that the PHP code has changed since I installed the IMPakT upgrade, so what happens if you use both extensions? It seems to work fine.

Told ya Tim this would happen. Anyway, Dave as far as I know you shouldn;t have both installed. IMPaxkt replaces Phakt. It's faster, bigger, etc.... By the way, if you want to run more than one cofiguration with UD (like ASP, PHP, and CF or several different PHP configs) then you might want to check out an extension called PD Configuation Switcher. It's available on this site I think.

Will PD Configuation Switcher switch between Phakt and Impakt? I didn't read anything that said Phakt had to be uninstalled before installing Impakt. Maybe Interakt should send a mass email to all Impakt users to make sure they are all on the same page. I would have never known unless I read your posts.

I have several sites created in Phakt that I maintain on a regular basis. I'd like to start using Impakt for subsequent projects but I don't want to convert any of the old stuff. What do you suggest I do to keep both versions? Does renaming the configuration folder work well? Do you have to rename the folders on both the local and remote sites? Thanks for your help.

PD Config Switcher allows you to keep multiple configurations of UD. So yes, you can keep one with Phakt and one with Impakt.

At the moment there can be no guarantees. Hopefully the latest release of PHAkT will be the current version for some time to come.

I say this, as it is known from build to build within PHAkT for some extensions to stop working. The same has to be said for IMPAkT.

However, I'm sure all PHP Extension Developers will do their best to put right any emerging problems as soon as they are able.

Tim,
In a previous post you mentioned copying and renaming the configuration folder to accomodate projects that were created with Phakt and Impakt, would I still have to keep installing and uninstalling between Phakt and Impakt since you can only have one version installed at a time?
Thanks,
Dave

Not at all.

Once you have a PHAkT Configuration folder, and an IMPAkT Configuration folder, all that you need to do is to rename the relevant folder to 'Configuration' to use it.

If you want to add extra extensions to the each installation, then you will have to install the extension twice. Once for PHAkT and once for IMPAkT.

Whilst this manual method is somewhat laborious, it does work.

If you want a hassle-free way of doing this, then you might want to look at the PD Configuration Switcher.
