Hi guys!

Ok, I know this topic has been talked about many times all over the net, but I'm really fed up of failing! Can someone please help me!?

i'm using a .gif so I can tile the background of a cell. Works nice in IE but not in NN. Is there a way to fix this? The URL is: www.microdesign2.com/mmm

Thanks in advance.

I took a quick look at this. I think you have created the gif to allow transparency, Netscape can't cope.

Recreate the background gifs and make sure that you select No Transparency when you save it.

There's no transparency in the gif. I can't figure it out.. If there's nothing in the cell, like an image or text, then the background doesn't tile.

ARRRGGHH!!! hehe.. (it's been 4 hours of trying off an on!)

I saved the footer_tile.gif and opened it with Adobe Photoshop 6.0, I then Saved it for Web and I could see the transparency in the coulours viewer on the right. I then made a copy of the gif from scratch, saved it for web and used this in place of your original, opened the page in Netscape 4.0 and it works just like it does in IE 6.0.

First of all, thanks a lot for trying to help me.

Second, I downloaded the gif you sent me and replaced the old one in my directory. I loaded up Netscape and there's no change. What version of netscape are you using? I'm using version 4.76. I even tried saving the images as JPG and still no luck.

Thanks a lot man,

Tony

Wierd, I'm using a copy of Netscape 4.08, completely unpatched and in all it's buggy, crashy, slow to render the page, glory.

One last thing, how are you applying the background? By clicking the whole table, Ctrl clicking in the cell or just placing the cursor in the cell?

Have a play around with all the above methods, see if that makes any difference.
Netscape is a real picky customer.

Wouldn't you just love to build a site with a pop up message "Hi Netscape user, I could't be bothered to put in the effort required to get everything working in your crummy old browser, go away, download a decent browser and come back when you've fineshed."

Yeah, that would be sweet.. hehe.. They should honestly get rid of netscape. Or atleast get rid of anything under 6.0. Atleast version 6 is less picky.

Umm.. I'm placing the bg by just clicking in the cell and browsing for the image. I will try the other methods you mentioned.

Thanks a lot for helping!

Tony
