A friend if mine saw everything I can do with Ultradev, and he wants to buy
a copy and start playing with it.

I told him there were already a lot of extensions for UD4 but not for MX,
and they were not always compatible with MX.

Would you say he should buy UD4 or MX?

Part of me say's get UD4 and enjoy everything that is already out there like
tutorials and extensions.

I wonder if buys UD4 today, what the upgrade to MX will be?

Thanks!

<font face='Verdana'>I think you should wait for DW MX.
It's more professional. Also if you check MM official discussion groups some people crying about buying UD4...

DW MX .... its a sweet product when you start looking at the small things, and even better one when you look at the whole package.

DW UD 4 will be defunct when MX hits the shelves anyways.

I am using the beta version of MX to see what its like. I installed all the extensions for UD4 and most of them work ok. A few are causing me problems and are causing errors but most are working.

It will be worth the wait for the final release... especially when you get to buy the suite at the upgrade price - $399 I believe.

If like me, you don't need the added php and .net support is there any point switching over?
Can it do anything different than ultradev as i am just getting to grips with it and don't want to go and have to learn something all over again...

The advantage of Dreamweaver is that it speeds up the work. MX is much more productive then previous versions and thats most important.
So, using programs like DW can speed up production. Differences in the site itself are in the code and that part depends mostly on you.

P.S. MX writes slightly better code then version 4.

Hmmm, experience tells me that if you don't answer he's going to repeat it, that is if it wasn't because he got a error screen.

Anyway, so far there's a few available here:
www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/special/extensions/ (good stuff)

dynamic.macromedia.com/bin/MM/exchange/main.jsp?product=dreamweaver
do an advanced search for product version MX, then try the sites of the people who made these...boxed versions aren't out yet, extentions will probably come a mass in a few months.

So far i have these few extensions installed in Dreamweaver MX that were originally written for UD4

(all of these work fine)
- Advanced Open window
- Advanced Random Images
- ASP Dream
- Auto Copyright
- Chromeless Window
- Delete Multiple Records
- Go Back or Forward
- Horizontal Looper 2
- No Cache
- Pure ASP Upload
- Smart DB Objects
- Special Alert
- Splash Window
- Ulti mailto

And i must say, I d/loaded it a few days ago, and apart from the cramped workspace the coding side of things is greatly improved.
Hurray for the option to get rid of the floating objects panel too.

Uhm... did I understood right? Do these extensions work for you on Dreamweaver MX? With PureASP Upload 1.50 I'm having the problems that other users have (something about changing Template-codes in a file that is not a Template), while with HLooper2 I get this error:

JavaScript error while loading HLooper2.htm:
Unable to open script file "../HideRegionClass.js" (error 2).

I'd like to know if someone has my same problem with HorizontalLooper2... It would be nice to make a page on UDzone filled by users who found incompatibility between DMX and old extensions, reporting the errors...
