I've been developing web apps with UD4 and ASP3 for a year now and will soon move to Dreamweaver MX. I am interested in using ASP.NET but is Visual Basic .NET hard to grasp compared to VBScript??

Your thoughts appreciated, thanks.

To my understanding:

If you know VBScript 100% you'll know a good 75% of VB.NET

If you know ASP 3.0 100% you'll know a good 50-65% of ASP.NET

.NET seems to be the shiz's nit, however, I myself am not delving into it until I get a better grasp of ASP and VBScript. It's like how they say "You gotta crawl before you walk" "Walk before you run" "Run before you fall" "Fall before I laugh"......

I can't commit to that but after attending the ASP.NET training course, I find that it is quite different, but yes, if you have knowledge on VBScript, you may find that VB.NET is a few percentage similar. As for writing ASP.NET it isn't the same, I have tried using DMX4 trial version the other day in the computer school, the concept is quite similar to UD4 but much more complex. Maybe you should try it out. With your knowledge I think you will e able to grab the concept more than I do. I'm still quite new to ASP and .NET. BTW, do you know that you can use more than one language to write ASP.NET? and you can mix the 3 languages into one page?

Just about all .NET gets converted into XML, thus the ability to use one language interchangably with another. Neat concept, but Microsoft has failed to ever make anything TRULY useful and secure. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Problem with ASP.Net is to get started. Once you get a grisp on the concept, everything goes smoothly (at least in my case).

ASP/VBScript don't have much use of their knowledge when learning ASP.Net. Working concept is quite different. However, Visual Basic developers will find ASP.Net VB much more similar to what they're used to.

ASP.Net gets compiled (not converted in XML) on first load. However, working with DB is pretty much like working with XML.

All sensibile information should be in web.config file. Try to download or grab this file and you'll see the difference.
