Hey guys, I have created a site that has some folders that need to be secured via SSL. I am hosting the pages on a Win2K server.
However, I am not sure what is REQUIRED of me. I dont want to pay verisign for a certificate if I can just use the Win2K certifcate server to generate it. I have tried this second approach and it doesnt appear to work properly... but I am very ignorant.
Therefore, I am hoping some of you can help me out and let me know what i NEED, the least expensive solution would be nice

What are all of you doing?
Jeff

I don´t think you can use SSL without really buying a certificate from verisign. I think they actually designed SSL for their Certificates. Optionally you can use Secureit og Paypal or something like that and then I think you pay percentage for each transaction. I solved this problem for my site with mailorders. that is. you pay for the product at the postoffice when you go to pick it up. But then again that only works for orders within your own country.

Hello! For a site that is accepting payments you will need an SSL certificate or use a shared certificate from your web host.
The pages on your site that need to be secured that require credit card numbers will be in the site folder that is secured with the certificate. The vendor GeoTrust has a one year quick SSL certificate for only 119 USD per year.
The other option is to interface with a credit card processing service such as PayPal that already has all the security and certificates in place and they take their two plus percent off each transaction which would be lower if you generate a minimum number of sales dollars per month.
Have used the above two ways but there are others as well. The PayPal interface works well with UD4 and they actually have an extension that you add to your site and you can specify many options and the look of the payment button or use one that you create too.
The extension is free and you just have to create a premier level with them and supply a bank number for which you can transfer the PayPal funds to after someone has made a payment.
Hope this helps. Thanks!
