When you create a sign up for a new user there is a standard UD bahaviour to check that the username doesnt already exist.
What i want to do is check that a password doesnt exist, not all passwords, just a particular one and if it does already exist then redirect to let the user try again.
any ideas??

it's a bit dodgy that isn't it?
if someone knows a password already exists in your db, it will make it much easier for some malicious person to go through your list of members and find access thru someone else's Uname.

thats my opinion anyway <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

mmm never thought of that Dave, doesn't matter now anyway, it was something that I thought wasn't working because the password already existed but it's not, it was something else, so I'll leave it as it is.
Thanks

Following on from this does anybody know of a tutorial/extension for creating a random password for new users that can then be emailed to them?

Hi Dave

I use a StarterKit that I purchased from Wayne Lambright. It is a great start and only costs about £20 ($29.99). It will enable you to build a membership login site very quickly.

Check it out @ www.ultradevextensions.com/starterkit2/sskit/default.asp

Cheers

Thanks Perry

Will have a look at that, I have also found a free extension at the macromedia exchange that generates a random password so i'll check that out too.
