I am currently using the Yaromat Check Form extension but I would like to add some additional validation on fields that are currently not required but would make other fields required if it does get filled out.

The newest version of Yaromat's Check Form can do that... check the MM Exchange and make sure you have the latest version.

I do have the latest version of the extension (4.66). maybe i am making this more difficult - but i don't see where it allows you to make other fields required (validated) if a non-required (non-validated) field is filled out.

I've not tried this extension in practise but I've just had a quick look and there is a selection that says "This must be checked too" so i would presume that this is what you are looking for.
