<font face='Arial'></font id='Arial'> I'm using SmartImage along with Pure ASP File Upload v2.09 all on the same page together. The upload works. However, the image isn't resizing according to my specs.
I've tried using each User Server Component. No change. I've set the W and H to 297H X 223H. I successfully upload a 640 X 480 image to the server, but after inspection notice the image retains the original size.
Any ideas? Hosted at NTT/Verio with .NET Framework support including ASP.NET and ADO.NET

I just purchased smartimage and had the same problem, somehow, in my case the image began to resize after changing the path from a physical path e.g. "D:\inetpub\wwwroot\masterwk.com\html\upload\" to a virtual path e.g. "upload"

I applied the virtual path for both ASP Upload, and Smart Image, then it worked. If this suggestion doesn't work, I'm sorry, but you'll have to ask George for support.

Moreover, I just encountered the next problem after the resizing began to work.

The next problem I encountered was that it isn't possible to upload and resize the images that are large in size e.g. 100Kb - 1MB.

George, please let us know how to overcome these problems, because if we have to resize every image taken by a camera, the extension is only half as useful as it should be.

Answering my own question.. so other people can save time:

PROBLEM: The ASP upload and Smart Image resizing did not work on images that were imported from a digital camera. On the other hand, it did work perfectly with other images stored on my computer.

SOLUTION:
Opened the imported raw image from the digital camera, saved it with a different file name, which changed the image resolution from 300 to 72.

It seems like the upload and resize works as long as the image resolution is 72. Otherwise the file size doesn't matter (tested with a file size of 2MB, and it worked without any problems).

George, can't we set the extension so we can upload & resize images with any resolution (like 300)?

<font face='Arial'></font id='Arial'> Answering my own question to help others.

After tinkering with almost everything, the Resizer finally worked everytime. Images from a digital cam usually come in as a "read-only" file. Perhaps during the upload process, the permissions interfere and no save can be made after resizing...I don't know...Ask G.P.
I tried other images..not from a digital cam. One with a resolution of 72dpi and another at 150dpi. I had success.

One other factor to consider...I started to have success after my hosting provider configured the permissions on my "photos" folder to full read/write.

Hope that helps!

Good to know we're all working together on this!

I checked the image files with the resolution of 300 to see if they were read-only. This was not the case. And yes, rr, just like you said image files with 150 resolutions can be uploaded. Presented no problem what so ever (thanks for the tip! <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> ).

But as before image files with 300 resolution could not be uploaded & resized.

The folder on my server has permission so that would not be causing the problem.

Any suggestions George?

<font face='Arial'></font id='Arial'>After more tweaking, I have come to the conclusion that using the Resizer is more successful when the User Server Component is switched to ASP.NET. Your situation may differ depending on your hosting arrangements.

I conducted 2 tests...one with AutoDetect and one with ASP.Net. The latter worked for me.

I've also been tweaking around a bit, but despite changing the User Server Component, no change to the situation.

Damn! Same JPEG format, same file size, just a little difference in the resolution and it won't let the upload and resize to work.

Have you tried to upload and resize an image file with a 300 resolution?

Does it work for you?

If yes, I'd at least have some kind of hope here <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>.

hey people!

I'm very glad that you are so enthousiastic and also helping each other that much! You will definately help me to make this product absolutely bullet proof! Thanks!

I wasn't aware of any jpeg resolution issues till now. Well I have testted it all with just regular jpegs thats why maybe.

It is a bit weird that all components refuse the 300 dpi - I will have to verify that. Although it seems to me that at least ASP.NET should be able to handle this.

So I will do some more investigation and will let you know - in the mean time I will appreciate if you continue to provide feedback - it is very valuable to me!

Greetings,
George

Hi Everyone,

There was a case sensitive problem. But that is solved and you can upgrade to the latest version of Smart Image Processor: www.dmxzone.com/go?NewsId=3965

Resizing for me is not working. I have read the tutorials but the new version doesn't match the tutorial screens, specifically the upload folder. I have created the following page as a test. The resize geanie should resize to 320x240, but if you upload an image larger than that it does not show. Try the following link to check it:
clasificadosonline.com/partnerschabereupdatetest2.asp

I am using asp image .dll

I would appreciate any help. Thanks

The solution to my problem was on the permissions. I needed to authorize delete so the resized image could replace the uploaded one.

Now, it seems too obvious. Hope it helps someone else.
